Q: What is the difference between Maca Powder and Gelatinized Maca Powder? ?

A: Gelatinized Maca refers to the process of breaking down the hard to digest starches in the root to aid in easier digestion of the product, while still benefitting from its use. Gelatinization uses heat to break the cellular walls of the starch molecules and they are extracted from the Maca. Raw Maca powder has never been heated above 118F/43C. That makes it a whole food and leaves all nutrients intact, however due to starchy content, it may be harder to digest for some users. ?

Q: How much Maca should I take daily? ?

A: If you are new to using Maca, we recommend starting out with ¼ to ½ of a tsp (1500mg to 2500mg) per day. Each individual responds to Maca differently and some might find this amount to be substantial each morning, while others might benefit to breaking up your intake throughout the day. There are several factors that may affect your optimal use, such as age, weight, overall health, etc. Please refrain from taking more than 1 tsp a day until you see how your body responds to the maca root. It is also a good idea to consult your doctor if you are taking Maca as part of your daily nutritional regimen. ?

Q: At what time of the day should I take Maca, if using daily?

A: Most users prefer to take their Maca first thing in the morning, while others feel spreading daily amount throughout the day helps to maintain hormonal balance. Q: Why is there a California Proposition 65 warning label on Maca Powder? ?

A: California Prop 65 warnings arerequired by California’s Safe Drinking Water and Toxic Enforcement Act of 1986. Companies are required to place a warning label on any product they sell within California if it exceeds the level that the State has established as risk free for a list of over eight hundred chemicals. These standards are specific to the state of California. The lead standard in California is more stringent than what is required at the U.S. federal level, and by other governments including Canada and the European Union. Under California Prop 65, the State of California has determined that the safe harbor level for lead to avoid the risk of reproductive toxicity is no more than 0.5 mcg/day. This was calculated by identifying the level of exposure that has been shown to have no observable effect and then dividing that level by 1,000, to provide a very large margin of safety. California's 0.5 mcg/day threshold for lead is 150 times less than the 75 mcg/day limit that the United States Food and Drug Administration (FDA) has indicated as safe for consumption by pregnant and lactating women. It should be noted that California is the only state that requires warning labels at this low of a level.
